Doll making evening on August 2

For those of you who couldn't get to our great Community Day on July 1st (or for those who came and want to continue) our first dollmaking evening will be on Wednesday August 2nd, from 7-9pm, at 45 Anzac Road, Leederville. Everyone's welcome - if you can sew or knit, that's fantastic, but if you haven't done either for years, we can find you jobs plaiting wool for hair, or threading beads . . . we'll be making simple felt dolls, but we also welcome knitters to make little hairpieces or shoulder bags!

What to bring . . . well, if you have a sewing box, do bring it (scissors, chenille needles, embroidery thread, chalk, black and white wool) - but if you haven't, that's fine too.

And updates: our Community Day raised over $1200 to go towards doll distribution and training for carers (yay, thank you everyone!) . . . and the Uthando Project now has a website.

Questions? Email us - (just leave out the z when you type clarezh@iinet.net.au).

What a great day!

We just had a fabulous day with around 100 people making and dressing dolls, sitting chatting over scones and chocolate cake, or browsing our stall for bargains . . . thank you everyone who came (or who supported us) and made the day such a success!

And if you couldn't get there, don't worry - there will be a doll making evening at the same address on Wednesday 2nd August, from 7-9pm. You don't need to be an expert knitter or stitcher to come along - you can help to stuff dolls or thread beads . . .

If that time doesn't suit, contact us and we'll put you on the mailing list - maybe there'll be other groups forming that you could join.

Thanks again, everyone!

See you on Saturday!

Wondering where 45 Anzac Road is? Look for the Oxford Hotel on the corner of Anzac and Oxford St, and 45 is just a few houses up from the hotel, on the same side. If you're driving, note that it's Residents Only parking on that side of the street - parking is fine on the other side.

So see you there on Saturday afternoon!

Two days to go and thank you to our supporters

Only two days to go before our Community Day - Dolls for Zulu children - on Saturday 1st July from 2-5pm at 45 Anzac Road Leederville.

Hope to see you there, and please tell your friends. Whether you think you might like to make dolls, or you'd simply like to take a look and have afternoon tea, or support our Bring and Buy fundraiser, we'd love to see you.

We've had some more generous donations of 'gorgeous goodies' for our Bring and Buy sale from local businesses in Mount Hawthorn:

Uthando Project website

Just got the Uthando Project website details . . . there's a lovely photo of a child with a knitted doll . . .

More dolls!

Here are my two original dolls with three visitors . . . these are all cloth or felt, but I'll get some knitted doll photos next time.

Doll making, thinking, talking

Today I went to Georgia Efford's lovely house in the hills, to help make dolls . . . it's years since I did more than sew a button on, but I had enormous fun tacking bias binding around a tiny vest, stuffing a felt doll (it's definitely an art!) and having some great conversation. It was a good reminder that you don't have to be a sewing or knitting expert to be part of a group.

The Community Day on July 1st will have doll makers in action - join in and thread some beads or finish off some clothes - or put your name down to meet up later in the month. Every doll will go to a child in Kwa Zulu Natal - and will bring delight.

If you seriously aren't into sewing or knitting, simply come and marvel (that'll be me), and be part of our Bring and Buy Sale.
