Uthando Project and Ask5
Our first Ask5 Community Day will be held in Leederville on July 1 - it's called Ask5 simply because we're inviting friends to pass the word on to another 5 people. And it's all about supporting the Uthando Project (Dolls for Zulu children), which you can read about in
What will be happening on the day? First of all, the chance to see some of the wonderful handmade dolls that people around Perth have created. Then, if you sew or knit, there's the opportunity to see some of these people at work, join in, talk to them about the dolls, pick up patterns, or form a group.
For those who'd like to support, but aren't 'crafty', please bring along a 'gorgeous goodie' for our Bring and Buy Sale (something gorgeous, new/unused, that you don't want but that somebody else would love). We already have some terrific 'goodies' donated. When you arrive, look for the appropriate table ($1, $2, $5 or $10) and pop your 'goodie' on it - then start shopping! You can also sponsor a doll with a message of friendship, or join us for afternoon tea (gold coin donation).
All the funds raised (yes, that's 100%) will be sent (via Rotary Australia World Community Service) to CINDI - a South Africa network of organisations working together in the interests of children affected by HIV/AIDS - for doll distribution and training for carers.
I'll try to post some photos next time, once I work out how . . .
Oh, and the details:
Saturday July 1, from 2-5pm, at 45 Anzac Road, Leederville. Please write it in your diaries (and tell 5 people who might like to know!)
